One of the longest surviving business premises in Dundrum, Dublin 14, has come on the letting market following the decision by the owners, Mulvey & Co, to relocate their hardware business.
The firm has been trading out of its extensive building on Main Street for the past 73 years.
Agents Finnegan Menton are now quoting a rent of £105,000 (€135,000) for the building, which has a total floor area of 8,260 sq ft including 3,770 sq ft at street level. It will appeal especially to retailers or restaurateurs looking for particularly spacious premises in a strong trading location. It might also end up as a pub.
Mulvey's has always kept pace with changing business trends, and after concentrating on coal sales in the early years, later stocked a broad range of hardware goods.
With the increasing trend towards specialisation, the company is today one of the largest importers and distributors of flooring and decking. The firm's timber business has been moved to a distribution unit in Tallaght while the floor and decking showrooms are now in Ranelagh.
Dundrum village is currently undergoing major changes with the introduction of LUAS, the building of a bypass linking in to the M50 and the development of a major new town centre by Castlethorn Construction.
