What could be greener than using timber from your own back yard to make traditional Irish furniture that will in time become heirlooms?

Twenty years ago, Richard Beer planted a forest in Co Clare that is now ready to be thinned. Beer’s new company, Irish Country Furniture, based in Inagh, Co Clare, is using this timber in the manufacture of lovely, solid traditional beds, settles, cupboards, larders – just about any item of furniture you desire – and if you have a spare tree or two of your own, he’ll use that, too. The red painted bed pictured costs €500. See www.irishcountryfurniture.ie.
