Lady Augusta Gregory was a woman of good judgment and fine tastes, we can all agree, so the opportunity to enjoy a weekend of seafood dining in her former summer home is too good to be missed. Mount Vernon is a Georgian villa, overlooking Galway Bay from its vantage point in New Quay, Co Clare, between Kinvara and Ballyvaughan.

On the weekend of April 24th, Mount Vernon will host the “Last of the Natives” weekend, which will feature native oysters, local lobster, devilled crab and fresh scallops, along with wines from the Rhône and Languedoc, presented by wine importer Simon Tyrrell. For €395 per person sharing, you will get two nights’ accommodation in the villa, as well as two dinners and a wine tasting and light lunch on the Saturday. For booking, contact the owners, Mark Helmore and Aly Raftery, at 065-7078126 or e-mail info@mountvernon.ie. See www.hiddenireland.com/mountvernon for more details.
