YET another London auction house includes a selection of Irish art in a sale of pictures, when Phillips offers work by, among others, Paul Henry, George Campbell, F.E. McWilliam, Daniel O'Neill, William Scott and Sir John Lavery in an auction next Tuesday. There are two works by Henry: The Watcher dating from circa 1914-1916, which shows a young woman staring out to sea, and a self explanatory landscape called In Connemara.
They are expected to make £30,000-£40,000 and £7,000-£10,000 respectively. The Lavery picture is called Portrait of a Lady in Brown, and it has a presale estimate of £15,000-£20,000. Also in this auction is an Augustus John drawing of a Galway barmaid; it should sell for £1,000-£1,500.
