A BBC spokesman said the list was compiled based on songs that had "outplayed all others . . . in public, from cafes to clubs and from the high street to hospital radio". Queen's Bohemian Rhapsodyand The Everly Brothers' All I Have to Do Is Dreamtook second and third place.
