TODAY, there are two nurses, a dentist and a doctor attached to the Naval Service on a full-time basis. Medics are more qualified now than in 1985. They train with the ambulance and fire service before being sent to sea.

Counselling is now the accepted norm after potentially traumatic incidents. If something like the Air India disaster happened again, all concerned would be given post-traumatic stress disorder de-briefings.
