Award-winning Swedish composer Johan Söderqvist's beautiful and evocative Let The Right One In is not your typical horror score. Although Söderqvist ( Brothers, After The Wedding, Things We Lost In The Fire) does provide standout moments of nerve-shredding tension, its predominant mood is at once romantic and elegiac, which is a particularly smart approach to director Tomas Alfredson's critically acclaimed film of a 12-year-old boy's burgeoning relationship with a 200-year-old vampire. Dynamically combining long melodic lines, subtle polyrhythms and bright colours with spare orchestration and brooding electronica, he infuses his extraordinary score with rare dramatic intensity and emotional complexity to achieve a dark, haunting lyricism.
