Set in New York and Wicklow, Rachel's Holiday by Marion Keyes (Poolbeg £6.99), gives an insight into the life and times of a 30-something drug user struggling to come to terms with her addiction. After spending the past few years in New York, going from job to job and becoming more dependent on the grace of her friends and lovers to support her drug habit, she is hauled back to Ireland by her concerned family. Confined in a rehabilitation clinic in remote Wicklow, she is introduced to the concept that she has a serious problem and is forced to deal with harsh reality.
An extremely enjoyable read, the author deals well with the serious underlying issues conveyed in the story.
