AUBURN HOUSE, one of Malahide's most impressive residences on 26 acres, was sold last June for £1.47 million to Dublin businessman Ulick McEvaddy. Next Tuesday at noon, local auctioneer Denis Drum will be holding a clearance sale on the premises, augmented by items from another source.
Among more than 600 lots, a fine landscape with figures attributed to the circle of George Barrett is expected to do best; it has an estimate of £8,000-£12,000. Other pictures include a still life of fruit by Maria Margitson, dated 1879, which should make £3,000-£5,000, and a late 18th century Irish school female portrait, which is expected to fetch £1,500-£1,800. There are also many equestrian related paintings.
Furniture runs from a large Irish gilt - overmantle mirror from the mid-18th century (estimate £3,000-£5,000) and another French overmantle (£2,000-£3,000) to a Venetian chandelier, which came from a house in Fitzwilliam Square (also £2,000-£3,000). A handsome bow fronted mahogany corner cabinet carries a pre sale estimate of £800-£1,200 and a walnut credenza is expected to fetch £2,000-£2,500. There are also no less than three large Victorian cast iron baths, estimated to make £400-£600 each.
