New look Mostly Modern

The latest Bank of Ireland Mostly Modern music concert series, which opened last week, has been given a face lift

The latest Bank of Ireland Mostly Modern music concert series, which opened last week, has been given a face lift. The concerts are now all scheduled for Thursday lunch times, spread over roughly three week intervals until the beginning of April. And, in challenge to the hegemony of the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery's Sundays at Noon series, the Mostly Modern concerts at the Bank of Ireland Arts Centre are all now free.

Programming has been tightened up, too, and the new series is presenting concerts with a strongly thematic thrust. Sli Nua play Raymond Deane and John Buckley along with the winning piece from a young composers' competition on November 21st, Richard O'Donnell plays percussion pieces by Cage and Feldman on December 5th, and Louise Thomas plays Latin American piano music on December 19th. Among the events in the New Year will be works from Eastern Europe and a programme of new music from Switzerland.
