Tristes Tropes is the rather unpromising name given to the latest programme from the National Chamber Choir (above) under Paul Hillier. It’s actually a wide-ranging affair, beginning in the 15th century with Dufay, Senfl and Josquin, and then leap-frogging into the 20th century (Arnold Schoenberg, Kurt Weill, Henryk Górecki, Erik Bergman and Louis Andriessen) and beyond into the 21st (with Israeli-American composer Shulamit Ran’s Credo/Ani Ma’amin). The programme is being presented in just two venues, the Abymill Theatre in Fethard on Friday, and the NCH’s Kevin Barry Room on Saturday.
