NASHVlLLE gets a makeover. Sporting a new haircut, a toothful smile and a voice that sounds like its own Disney cartoon Nancy Griffith shamelessly plunges the murky origins of rock `n' roll, wipes down the grime and repackages it in handy sized dollops of schmooze and charm.
Oozing a beguiling chastity she leads her band, the Blue Moon Orchestra, through a quick-stop tour of some of the greatest moments in American music with a professional easy-going ease that must have taken years to perfect. But the result resembles elevator music for those who never go anywhere.
Still, not everybody is gracious enough to open the door for the support act to steal the show. Mind you, the Crickets having played with both Buddy Holly and Elvis are not the type of outfit to be upstaged by anybody.
Sonny Curtis's rendition of That Will Be the Day brought us right back to the very beginning of what we now call rock `n' roll.
