Praise be for older siblings and their raidable music collections. Odonis Odonis founder Dean Tzenos rifled his older sister's mixtape collection, and the industrial, shoegaze and various wave discoveries found therein litter these songs. There's a distinct retro fizz ( Hollandaze), and surf seems an apt label, given the huge drowning waves of reverb. Canadian Tzenos teamed up with Denholm Whale (founder of Buzz records) and Jarod Gibson to create something that is instantly infectious but slightly stymied by its tendency to immerse itself in its influences. But when you sound like The Cramps meets The Jesus and Mary Chain, this is not necessarily a bad thing. The production is authentically era-specific, if occasionally muddy, and the album is worthwhile for the glorious Ledged Upalone. Welcome Odonis Odonis – or should we say The Dum Dum Boys?
