The Irish Film Archive celebrates the 125th anniversary of John McCormack’s birth with a double bill at 1pm on Sunday at the IFI in Dublin.
It features Song O' My Heart, the 1930 melodrama featuring McCormack as a disconsolate concert singer reunited with his former sweetheart (Maureen O'Sullivan in her screen debut), and Martin Dwan's engrossing and illuminating recent documentary, John McCormack: The People's Tenor.
Showing earlier (11.45am) on Sunday at the IFI is Jake McKone's Strange Days Are These, a mockumentary on a day in the life of a director who makes micro-budget B-movies. It comes described as "wry, cringe-making but also touching."
