A third man was remanded in custody at a special sitting of Nenagh District Court shortly before midnight on Thursday night charged with criminal damage to the grave of Det Garda Jerry McCabe, who was shot dead during a robbery in Adare last year.

Mr Melvin McNamara (17), O'Malley Park, Southill, Limerick, was charged with damaging the headstone belonging to Garda McCabe's widow, Ann, at Mount St Oliver Cemetery, and with riotous and violent behaviour on the same occasion. The alleged offences took place between 1 p.m. on January 8th and 1 p.m. on January 9th and also between 1 p.m. on January 11th and 1 p.m. on January 12th.
