MERCIFULLY, in fact, there weren't many. Perhaps I should single out the anti climactic opening of the much trumpeted Glasgow City Art Gallery, which turned out to be a neat conversion job architecturally, but the standing collection contained a goodly (if that is the word) proportion of mediocrity and even kitsch.
