The Irish Auctioneers & Valuers Institute's annual introductory Fine Art Appreciation course is due to begin in Dublin on Tuesday, September 21st. Held in the IAVI's Merrion Square premises, the course covers all areas of the fine and decorative arts over a series of ten lectures held in pairs from 7 p.m. every second Tuesday until November 21st. On November 30th, students are invited to participate in a valuation evening when items they bring to Merrion Square are inspected by experts.
The sequence of illustrated lectures are given by a wide range of speakers including Brian Coyle and James O'Halloran of the James Adam salerooms, Fonsie Mealy, Douglas Bennett, Denis Drum and Michael Jordan of O'Reilly's auction rooms. Subjects to be covered range from Georgian and Victorian furniture to Irish art of the 19th and 20th centuries. The fee for this course is £150.
