The fourth single from Phillipa Brown's debut album is as 1980s- infused as we have come to expect. Not to sound like a pedant or anything, but it puzzles me why anyone in the 21st century would spend all night waiting by the phone (as Ladyhawke professes to do in these lyrics). Clearly, some pop cliches die hard.

Speaking of rock cliches. Put on this video and drink a shot for each one you're forced to stomach. Then check yourself into rehab immediately.

The third single from 24-year-old Morrison's Songs for You, Truths For Mealbum (yes, I sniggered too) is chiefly notable for featuring the most gratuitous use of explosions ever in a music video. Not that it does much good. You could throw Elvis, Shergar and Jimmy Hoffa in on backing vocals and it would still be as boring as watching paint dry.

Michelangelo was inspired by divine revelation to paint the roof of the Sistine Chapel. The Kaiser Chiefs, meanwhile, were inspired to write Good Days, Bad Daysafter witnessing Leeds United lose to Doncaster Rovers. It figures.

Only last week, Elvis Costello wowed us with a sappy but oddly touching duet with comedian Stephen Colbert ( Much Worse Things to Believe In). Here he promptly squanders all the goodwill he accrued by recording this inexplicable collaboration with emo pin-ups Fall Out Boy. Oh well, easy come, easy go.

With Lovebug, the virginal siblings venture well outside of their teen pop comfort zone without, it has to be said, falling flat on their faces. Am I really giving the Jonas a semi-decent review? Frighteningly, it would appear so.
