The 10th Darklight Festival, in Dublin’s Smithfield from October 8th to 11th, is mostly pitched as a celebration of art, film and technology. However, there is plenty to interest music fans.

“There’s a good solid strand of music stuff,” says programme director Derek O’Connor. “It’s hard to see music videos on the TV these days. In recent years, it’s been almost marginalised, so it’s a chance to celebrate the music video in a way that it doesn’t really get celebrated anymore.”

Respected music video director Mark Romanek is one of the main draws. Having directed videos by Madonna, Johnny Cash, Jay-Z and Michael and Janet Jackson, Romanek will participate in a public interview at the Light House Cinema on October 10th, and also a workshop for film-makers earlier that day.

The world premiere of REM's This Is Not a Show: Live at the Olympia, shot at the Dublin venue in 2007 by Parisian film-maker Vincent Moon, will also take place at Darklight '09.
