A report headed "Wandering expresident an enigma to his compatriots" in the editions of June 22nd stated incorrectly that Mr Augustin Gutierrez Canet, the Mexican ambassador, had been sacked from his position. As had been correctly reported in the editions of June 20th, he had turned down an offer to become ambassador to Haiti and had sought leave of absence after being recalled to Mexico. And a statement attributed to the ambassador in the June 22nd article that reports of a secret visit here to hatch a plot with the former president, Mr Carlos Salinas, against the Mexican regime were "mere stupidity" should have been attributed (as they were in the June 20th article) to Mr Jorge Castaneda, a Mexican visitor to Dublin.
