Ryanair passenger traffic hit a new record in August as it carried 8.9 million people during the month.
It was the second time in a year the Ryanair has carried more than 8 million passengers in a four-week period.
The no-frills airline said traffic rose 9 per cent over the month, but load factor – a measure of how full planes are – dropped 1 per cent to 88 per cent in the same period.
In the year to August, the airline carried 78.48 million passengers.

Ryanair is currently embroiled in a new takeover bid for rival Aer Lingus, in which is has almost a 30 per cent stake. However, the European Commission is evaluating the bid, and the board of Aer Lingus has urged shareholders to reject the offer, saying it undervalues the airline.
