HP Pavilion DM4
From €799
The HP Pavilion DM4 goes for both performance and style. It packs one of Intel’s Core i3 processors, an LED display and about seven hours of battery life into its metal case. It’s light enough to carry easily around, although it’s not quite at MacBook Air proportions just yet. It still includes a DVD drive for a start. And to appeal to the younger audience, there’s also a Beats Audio version, using the technology made famous by its association with Dr Dre. The design reflects this too, with a red backlit keyboard and the Beats logo.

Withings Smart Baby Monitor
€299
Baby monitors may be a necessary item for parents, but that doesn’t mean they have to be boring. Take the Withings Smart Baby Monitor, for example. Not only does it allow you to keep a close eye on your baby, it also allows you to remotely monitor your child no matter where in the world you are.
It uses a wide angle camera that works well in the dark, and includes the ability to talk to your child, control a lullaby and nightlight, and monitor the temperature and humidity level in the room.
The camera connects to your iPhone or iPad over Bluetooth for short distances, and your home wifi network should you be out of range. If you are monitoring remotely, however, your time is limited, with bundles of extra monitoring minutes available to buy.

Dyson Hot €349.99
When you hear Dyson, you mainly think vacuum cleaners. Or those fancy hand dryers. But heaters? Not the first thing that springs to mind. Like most of the company’s products, the design of Dyson’s ceramic heaters veer to the more unusual side of things. It heats up quickly, claiming to heat your room about six times faster than conventional heaters. There are no blades as the Dyson Hot uses “air multiplier” technology instead, and no grille, making it easier to clean. It also acts as a fan, so it will cool your house down in the summer. And it’s remote controlled, so you don’t even have to move from the sofa.
