To jump or not to jump – Nokia shifts strategy
A leaked memo written by Nokia’s chief executive Stephen Elop has likened the company’s predicament to a man standing on a “burning platform”, torn between burning alive or jumping into icy waters. The memo says the Finnish company must embrace “radical change” if it is to survive. It has raised expectations that Mr Elop will announce a big shift in Nokia’s strategy at a presentation today; some analysts say they expect him to say that the company would use Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 smartphone operating system. – (Copyright The Financial Times Limited 2011)
Support still for green economy
Sixty-six per cent of engineers have said that supporting the green economy is still important for Ireland despite the financial constraints of the EU-IMF bailout, according to research carried out by Ipsos MRBI. The figures were released ahead of a seminar, “Focus on future technologies”, next Monday to mark the start of Engineers Week 2011 (engineersweek.ie), which runs until February 20th.
