160 new jobs announced for Waterford and Dublin

A TOTAL of 160 jobs are to be created by two firms in Dublin and Waterford, it has been confirmed.

The Carlow-based Dinn Rí Group is to create 130 jobs in Waterford this year following its recent purchase of a number of venues in the city.

Separately, software firm Teradata says it is to create 30 new jobs in Dublin.

Leisure group Dinn Rí, which already employs 130 people at its entertainment complex in Carlow town, said it would double its staff following its recent purchase of four venues at John Street in Waterford city.

The group bought the premises late last year. One of the venues – the Woodman Bar – reopened before Christmas, while a second, the Foundry nightclub, is opening for business tonight. The other venues are scheduled to open at the end of this year.

About 50 additional jobs have been created during the construction phase and a further 130 staff are to be taken on to run the Waterford venues.

“We are confident that with this significant investment and our expertise in the sector, we will be able to develop these venues into successful businesses,” said Dinn Rí director Seán McLoughlin.

Elsewhere, data warehousing and business intelligence firm Teradata, which has been operating in Santry, Dublin, since 2007, says it is to create 30 new jobs.

The announcement follows a record fourth quarter for 2010 and full year results for the US-based firm. Teradata’s global revenues in 2010 were $1.9 billion, up 13 per cent over the previous year.

Europe Middle East and Africa regional controller Peter Mohan said the availability of skilled labour in Ireland had been a key factor in persuading the firm to expand its operations here.
