Stocks fell in New York today after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged but warned that rates are likely to rise in the coming months.

At the close on Wall Street, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 16.52 at 10,836.95, after having fallen as much as 110 points in the hour following the Fed's announcement.

Broader stock indicators were lower, although most recovered some lost ground late in the session.

The Standard and Poor's 500 index fell 6.17 to 1,333.32, and the Nasdaq composite index fell 3.94 to 2,557.90.
