New look `Finance' to appear

Finance is relaunching next month with a new A3 format as well as a finance and financial services news dimension. The trade publication emerged in 1987 to serve a very different financial services industry. Its publisher, Mr Ken O'Brien, sees the new look and content as keeping pace with the changes in the industry. The new-look financial services newspaper will be edited by Mr Oliver O'Connor.

Advertising Age, the US trade magazine, has come up with the Top 10 Slogans of the Century. Many are instantly recognisable to an Irish audience, proving that international advertising is not just a 1980s or 1990s phenomenon. The number one slogan was devised in 1948:

1. Diamonds are forever (DeBeers);

2. Just do it (Nike);

4. Tastes great, less filling (Miller Lite);

5. We try harder (Avis);

6. Good to the last drop (Maxwell House);

7. Breakfast of Champions (Wheaties);

9. When it rains, it pours (Morton Salt);

10. Where's the beef (Wendy's).

Simon Community's House of Cards appeal has raised £105,000 (€133,320) for the charity. Companies could buy space on a specially designed page of The Irish Times to send greetings instead of sending cards. Some £53,000 was raised directly but once the page appeared on December 13th, there was a single anonymous donation of £50,000 and several individual donations totalling £2,000.
