The International Herald Tribune will publish its last edition under that nameplate later this year after the New York Times Company said yesterday that it would rebrand the global publication as the International New York Times.
The publisher plans to introduce in the autumn a new print and digital version of its flagship New York Times newspaper, which will be edited specifically for international readers from four locations: New York, Hong Kong, Paris and London.
“The digital revolution has turned the New York Times from being a great American newspaper to becoming one of the world’s best-known news providers,” said Mark Thompson, chief executive at the New York Times. “We want to exploit that opportunity to attract international audiences, digital subscriptions and advertisers.”
The New York Times Company said that no layoffs or cutbacks were planned with the rebranding of the IHT and that the publisher would invest to enhance its international offerings.
