Ion-owned company on a roll

THESE ARE busy times for Irish-owned outsourcing group Southwestern. The company has just hired David Kelly from Capita plc to fill the new role of chief commercial officer.

He is in situ at Southwestern’s new office in Dublin, where it is plotting growth opportunities.

Southwestern, which is owned by Ion Equity, has had a couple of good contract wins of late.

At home, it picked up the account for An Bord Gáis while further afield, it secured an work with Irish construction group John Sisk in Poland.

Southwestern is carrying out finance functions relating to Sisk’s work on motorway projects in Poland. It is currently employing 125 staff in Lodz.

Capita has about 1,000 staff here and has picked up significant amount of work in the financial sector in recent times.

Given the cost-saving agenda that is likely to be pursued by Irish banks in the coming years, it is fair to assume that Kelly will be targeting this sector for work.

The public sector and semi-state utilities might also be fertile hunting grounds. All of which would be good news for its 450- strong workforce in Clonakilty, Co Cork.
