Stock prices were mixed yesterday in a session marked by profit-taking following Wall Street's three-day rally.

At the close on Wall Street, the Dow was down 37.51 at 10,689.67, but it had more than halved an earlier 80-point loss. The blue chips rose 145 points Thursday to 10,727.18, their 10th record high close in 14 sessions.

The Standard and Poor's 500 index fell 2.03 to 1,356.79, and the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index rose 28.67 to 2,590.28.

The NYSE composite index fell 1.67 to 639.30, and the American Stock Exchange composite index rose 11.98 to 770.36.

The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies rose 2.97 to 431.82.

Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 1,545 to 1,410 on the New York Stock Exchange, with 580 unchanged.
