A MARKETING campaign is being launched today for the second phase of the Monread Shopping Centre in Naas which has been developed by Tesco.

The €30 million complex on the edge of the town has Tesco Extra as its anchor store with a retail area of 10,802sq m (116,273sq ft).

It has been trading strongly since opening last November and along with a similar store in Maynooth, has been in the top five Tesco stores in the country in terms of turnover.

When completed, the centre will have a further 22 shop units to bring the overall retail space to 15,810sq m (116,273sq ft).

Two of three large units have already been let to Boots and Argos. The UK chemist commenced the fit out of its 464sq m (5,000sq ft) unit this week and Argos is expected to open for business early in June.

It will have a shop of 696sq m (7,500sq ft) and a store of around the same size.

A third large box still available is expected to be of interest to one of the leading fashion chains. Rents for the larger units are in the region of €269 per sq m (€25 per sq ft).

Louise Donnelly of letting agent DTZ Sherry FitzGerald has already let nine of the 21 shops at rents between €430 to €484 per sq m (€40 to €45 per sq ft).

The new tenants will include Costa, The Butcher’s Block, Occasions Hairdressing, Jackson Dry Cleaner, Boston Barber and The Wise Owl.

John Gibney, property director at Tesco, said yesterday that they were delighted with the trading performance of the new Naas store and they expected it to get a further boost from the opening of the second phase of the development.

Tesco also operates a second and smaller store in Naas. Dunnes Stores had planned to open a major new outlet at a shopping centre
