LEADING developer Gerry Gannon has lodged a planning application with Dublin City Council for a €65 million Islamic Cultural Centre including a large mosque at Clongriffin on the northern fringe of the city. It is the largest development project in the pipeline after the proposed National Children’s Hospital.

A Dublin-based Muslim group with support from many parts of the world has agreed purchase terms for the six-acre site located close to the Gannon-funded Dart station. Gannon Developments has also spent substantial funds on a range of public facilities in Clongriffin, including an internal street network, a 460-space park-and-ride facility, retail outlets, apartments and houses.

The 18,000sq m (195,000sq ft) development will include the mosque and support facilities, including a 34-classroom school, conference centre, assembly hall, playground and swimming pool.

The centre can accommodate up to 5,000 people at any one time. The new centre has been designed by Paula Gill of architects Conroy Crowe Kelly.
