Grafton Group has today appointed a new chief executive to replace Michael Chadwick who is preparing to step down.
Former BSS chief executive Gavin Slark will join Grafton on April 1st, 2011 and will be appointed chief executive on July 1st.
Mr Chadwick will continue to serve as chairman of the board in a non-executive capacity from July, after more than 25 years as executive chairman. He has advised the board of his decision to retire as an executive once his successor was found.
Chief operating officer Leo Martin will also retire at the end of the year, after agreeing to extend his contract until December.
Before taking up the role of group chief executive at BSS in 2006, Mr Slark (45) was previously chief operating officer and managing director of BSS's largest operating division, plumbing trade supplies. He oversaw the development of BSS, including several strategic acquisitions and the opening of more of 160 new outlets.
"We are very pleased to appoint a group chief executive of the calibre of Gavin Slark. He has a depth of experience and proven track record as a CEO in our sector," Mr Chadwick said.
"He has indicated that his priority will be to keep Grafton focused on meeting the challenge of an uncertain economic climate while positioning the group for future growth."
