One of Ireland's most remote and stunningly beautiful hotels, Glencar House Hotel in Glencar, Co Kerry, is for sale at around €2.3 million before it goes to auction on September 28th.

It is Ireland's oldest fishing house, dating from 1670 when it was built as a hunting lodge for Sir William Petter, the Earl of Lansdowne. It has 20 en suite bedrooms and stands on 13 acres overlooking the Macgillycuddy's Reeks and Carrauntoohil. It is nine miles from Killorglin, just off the beaten track in an almost forgotten unspoiled valley of ancient bogs and quiet scenic roads.

The hotel holds a lease on the prolific waters of the lower Caragh river - 4kms on both banks with first right of refusal to acquire the freehold.

The owner, Dermot O'Carroll, can be contacted at 066-9760102.
