THE Canadian-based Finning company, which has taken over the Caterpillar dealership in Ireland following the closure of McCormick Macnaughton, is to run its Dublin operation from a modern building at Greenogue Business Park in Rathcoole, Co Dublin.

The company is likely to be paying a rent of around €107 per sq m (€10 a sq ft) for the 2,160sq m (23,250sq ft) building which was specially built to accommodate heavy plant. It has a service pit and a 30-tonne gantry crane along with other service equipment.

The building, which is to be rented on a five-year lease, is finished to a high standard and includes two-storey office accommodation to the front as well as a showroom and trade counter at ground floor level.

Before moving into the new premises early next year, Finning Ireland is operating from the former headquarters of McCormick Macnaughton in the Aerodrome Business Park in Rathcoole, Co Dublin. It is currently for sale through HT Meagher O’Reilly at €12 million.

Finning recently completed the acquisition of the McCormick Macnaughton operation in Northern Ireland including a building at Blaris Industrial Estate in Lisburn. Finning has retained the 120 staff previously engaged in the Caterpillar business in Dublin, Cork and Lisburn.

Finning has been involved in the Caterpillar distribution business since 1933 and has operations in Western Canada, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Uruguay.

Brendan Smyth of DTZ Sherry FitzGerald, who advised Finning, said many firms were taking advantage of a break in their lease to expand into larger premises in the Dublin area.

He is currently seeking an industrial unit of 2,500sq m (26,909sq ft) close to Dublin Airport for a multinational company.
