THE BLANCHARDSTOWN Centre is continuing to attract the third highest retail spend in the country after Dublin city centre and Belfast city centre, according to the latest “retail footprint” by UK-based consultants CACI.
The study estimated that retail spending in Dublin city centre in the 12 months up to March last reached €1,960 million while Belfast had a figure of €1,240 million.
Spending at the Blanchardstown Centre was put at €680 million, ahead of Cork city centre at €600 million and Dundrum Town Centre at €540 million.
Meanwhile, Blanchardstown has attracted two new traders, Gamestop and Schuh.
Gamestop will be trading out of a unit of 120sq m (1,292sq ft) on level one of the centre between Champion Sports and Vision Express. The multinational operates 6,200 stores in 18 countries worldwide.
Schuh is fitting out a shop of 371sq m (3,993sq ft), their eighth in Ireland. Schuh was named last year as the 2008 UK footwear retailer of the year.
Centre manager Joe Gavin said yesterday that their letting agents (HWBC and Jones Lang LaSalle) were in discussions with a number of other major traders wanting to move into the centre.
