MAYNOOTH biomass heat and power company Imperative Energy is hoping to build a biopark near Boston and win new installation projects in the US it estimates could be worth more than €80 million over the next few years.
A new partnership with Northline Energy, a Washington- based biomass systems provider, will see them combine Imperative’s project finance and management expertise with Northline’s technical team’s skills to target commercial, industrial and public sector customers.
This will be initially in New England and the Pacific Northwest, which want to stabilise fuel costs and use greener energy.
Along with Mayo businessman JP Prendergast, Imperative is also working on a feasibility study for a multimillion dollar biopark they hope to build near Boston, which is modelled on a similar development planned in Claremorris, Co Mayo.
Both self-sufficient projects – where the waste produced by one process is used an input for another – would feature a biomass installation, a wood pellet production facility and clean-room laboratories for producing high- value, organic biopharmaceutical raw materials.
Imperative Energy managing director Joe O’Carroll, who took part in a recent Enterprise Ireland trade mission to Washington DC, tells how an award from the Global Cleantech Cluster Association last November has boosted its overseas expansion.
“Our partnership with Northline broadens our reach to the many regions across the US where there is availability of sustainable biomass and strong policy and regulatory support for renewable energy while fossil fuel prices are rising,” O’Carroll says.
