Three weeks to the Dublin City Marathon and the prospect of nearly 5,000 runners tramping around the roads of the city and beyond should warm the hearts of the organisers, the Business Houses Athletics Association (BHAA).

The number is already a significant increase on last year's figure (4,200) and the event is expected to generate over £5 million in revenue for Dublin city and county. This should also warm the hearts of those same traders who whinged when the Tour de France came to town in July.

This event, like the hugely popular Women's Mini Marathon, shows that it is the people who own the city.
