Robinho (thigh) and Micah Richards (ankle) are both expected to shake off injuries in time to feature in Denmark.

Robinho has struggled to reproduce his best form on the road and Hughes said: “When you are away from home, the onus is on the home side to stop your attacking threat.”

Hughes is calling on his side to re-create the spirit of Schalke tonight when they return to Uefa Cup action. Hughes believes that 2-0 victory in Gelsenkirchen should be seen as the benchmark if they are to progress in the competition.

“We played really well against Schalke. We got goals at the right time and won the match comfortably. We would love to have a similar situation tomorrow.”

Shakhtar Donetsk v Tottenham

Kick-off: Tonight, 6.45pm

On TV: Setanta Ireland

Pascal Chimbonda will get his chance to repair his relationship with the club’s fans at RSK Olimpiyskyi against the Ukraine champions tonight as Vedran Corluka is cup-tied, while Alan Hutton is out injured and Ledley King is only just returning from a hamstring complaint.

King also struggles to play matches in quick succession as his knee swells up but manager Harry Redknapp is hopeful of the centre-back being fit for the League Cup final against Manchester United a week on Sunday.

Republic of Ireland international captain Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko are all cup-tied so Darren Bent is likely to start in attack.

Jamie O’Hara and Luka Modric have picked up knocks and Redknapp will choose between Carlo Cudicini and Heurelho Gomes in goal. Cudicini is cup-tied for the United clash.
