UCD made the trip to Galway Bay golf club a profitable one when they beat NUIG 4-1 in the first round of ICGA (Irish Colleges Golf Association) league last week.
However, the scoreline flatters the All-Ireland Barton Shield champions - one match was decided on the 19th and two on the 18th. In the deciding match Robert O'Siochain beat Mark Roe with a par on the first tie hole while the two matches that finished on the 18th were shared at one point each. Owen McNeill (NUIG) beat Joe Brennan and John Toner (UCD) beat Martin Lavan.
UCC edged out Dublin University 3-2 at Royal Dublin with the deciding match also going to tie holes: Eoghan O'Dwyer beat Ken Nolan at the 20th.
