LEAGUE champions Derry name two championship debutantes in the team which will open their Ulster campaign against Armagh in Celtic Park on Sunday goalkeeper Jonathan Kelly and Sean Lockhart at wing forward.
Manager Brian Mullins has made only one change from the side that convincingly retained the National League title against Donegal earlier this month. John McGurk, right wing back on the All Ireland winning team of 1993, comes in as left wing forward in place of Eamonn Burns.
Gary Coleman continues at full back where he made a surprising, but wholly effective, appearance in the League final, marking Tony Boyle.
Sunday will mark centre forward Damien Barton's 17th championship as an inter county player. He made his debut against Down in 1980.
The selection shows four personnel changes from the team that hammered Armagh by 10 points to last year's corresponding first round fixture.
Armagh, meanwhile, name a team all of whom have sampled championship football at some stage. The selection shows only three changes in personnel from the team that finished last year's rout at the hands of Derry. All three, the Grimley twins, Mark and John, and corner forward Jim McConville have retired.
The main adjustment made for injury is the replacement of Andrew McCann at full back by Ger Reid. Like Derry's John McGurk, Armagh captain Martin McQuillan is more usually associated with the wing back positions for both county and province but is named at left wing forward where he made several appearances during the League.
Meanwhile, Tipperary make a couple of changes in the team to play Waterford in Sunday's first round Munster Hurling Championship match in Walsh Park. Out of the team that lost the League final to Galway go Conal Bonnar, Conor Gleeson and Eddie Tucker. In their places, Thomas Dunne, Declan Ryan and Liam McGrath. Bonnar is ruled out because of a shoulder injury and Aidan Ryan who came into the League final as a substitute wasn't considered either, because of a recurring back complaint. Declan Ryan missed that match because of injury but has recovered.
The three incoming players are attackers but only Eddie Tucker of the starting six forwards three weeks ago is dropped. Team captain Michael Cleary, struggling desperately to recover his best form, is given a different role to assist his quest and will line out at midfield.
Raymie Ryan, who played at wing forward against Galway, reverts to more familiar surroundings at right wing back. Liam Cahill is retained in the attack on the right wing.
