On February 3rd 1941, Carol Mann was born in Buffalo, New York. Naturally left-handed, she chose, like Ben Hogan, to play righthanded golf and was extremely successful, winning 38 tournaments, including the 1965 US Women's Open. At 6ft 3ins, she also gained the distinction of being the tallest woman to play successful tournament golf, though she playfully preferred to describe her height as 5ft 15ins.
