Clontibret regained the Monaghan football title when they had a deserved win over reigning champions Castleblayney at Aughnamullan yesterday. Gerry Moen was the star of the show for Clontibret and his three first-half points helped them to a 0-6 to 0-3 half-time lead.
Castleblayney briefly threatened a revival in the second half, but Clontibret consolidated with three points on the trot from Rory Mone, Declan Brennan and Moen again to lead by five entering the final quarter.
Castleblayney were reduced to 14 men with the dismissal of Peter Duffy in the final minutes.
