Kilkenny - 18 Cistercian - 13: Kilkenny College landed two tries early in the second half at Carlow yesterday to reach the second round.

Roscrea took the lead when Séamus Hennessy converted a penalty but Kilkenny replied with a try from flanker Geoffrey Dunne. The winners led 8-6 at half-time after Hennessy and Jason Cassells traded penalties.

Stephen Yates touched down for Kilkenny's second try following a penetrating run by Andrew Foley and Jonathan Holmes crossed for another.

Roscrea applied pressure in the second half but were held scoreless until Kevin Quinlan crossed the line in injury time for a try converted by Hennessy.
