Ireland bring series of defeats to an end

Ireland... 35 Australia..

Ireland ... 35 Australia ... 34:INTERNATIONAL RULES: Ireland clinched a dramatic victory at Parnell Park yesterday to take the 2002 series to the decider next Sunday.

This well-attended fixture went right down to the wire with Barry O'Grady's last-minute score proving decisive.

Having won the opening test on a 47-41 scoreline, The Australians looked to be heading for their fifth consecutive win over the Irish, having won all three tests last year. But the Irish now go down to Páirc Uí Caoimh at the weekend hoping to recapture the series they last secured two years ago in Clones.

A dramatic turnaround in the third quarter which saw Ireland post 23 points was to set up a dramatic finish which saw the tourists come back strongly.
