Harrington misses the cut Golf News round-up

GOLF/News round-up Padraig Harrington had another day to forget at the BellSouth Classic in Atlanta yesterday.

After a two over par-74 round on Thursday, Harrington needed to produce something more positive yesterday but an early birdie on the fourth proved to be a false dawn for the Dubliner as he recorded another 74 for a two round total of 148.

Dropped shots on eight, nine and 10 were costly and although two more bogeys were cancelled out by a couple of birdies the Irish Ryder Cup star's slip to four over for the tournament was likely to end his involvement for this weekend. With a projected cut of one over par Harrington will have an extra two days to get his game in order for next week's Masters at Augusta.

Meanwhile, American Bob Tway shot a six-under par 66 to claim the early clubhouse lead but was later joined at the top by Lee Jansen at eight under par with defending champion Retief Goosen poised on six under par after 12 holes.

Tway, starting the day on the 10th tee at two under, produced three birdies in his opening nine holes but once he reached the turn he ran into form.

Four birdies in five holes propelled Tway to the top of the leaderboard and his round would have been better had it not been for a dropped shot on the parthree eighth - his penultimate hole.

Goosen, winner of back-to-back European Order of Merits, began the day with two birdies in four holes on the back nine to ease within two shots of Tway.

SENIORS TOUR: Scotland's John Chillas carded a seven under par 65 to storm to the top of the leaderboard after the second round of the Tobago Plantations Seniors Classic at the Tobago Plantation Golf and Beach Resort. The former Scottish PGA champion got off to a flying start when he birdied both the par four first and the second and that set the tone for the day.

He dropped a shot at the third but got it back with another birdie on the 503 yard par five sixth hole before finishing his opening nine by holing out from 12 feet for an eagle on the par five ninth.

Eddie Polland led the Irish challenge with a 72 for 146, Joe McDermott shot 72 for 149 while Denis O'Sullivan carded a 73 for 151 .
