Madam, - I was very interested to read in Emmet Oliver's Media & Marketing column (September 25th) that the Government "continues to toy" with the idea of banning drink advertising.

Seeing as how our Taoiseach is pictured without a pint glass in his hand about as often as Winston Churchill was seen sans cigar; how our Tanaiste "borrows" an Air Corps Transport aircraft for the very important duty of opening a rural off-licence on time; and how, as reported in your edition of September 26th, TDs of all shades and hues closed ranks behind one of their number whose driving while inebriated resulted in serious injuries being inflicted upon a member of the public; I feel that Emmet Oliver's phraseology, "continues to toy", is suitably apt, and sums up the attitude of the denizens of Leinster House perfectly. - Yours, etc.,

D.K. HENDERSON, Castle Avenue, Dublin 3.
