Madam, - The eulogies to Ronald Reagan that have been pouring through the media over the past few days make me feel as if I'm living in George Orwell's 1984. I wonder how many people will remember Reagan as a great defender of freedom in El Salvador, Nicaragua or Iraq, to name a few countries left devastated by his foreign policies. Saddam Hussein, however, should remember Reagan fondly given his unflagging support for Ba'athist political tyranny throughout the 1980s despite pleas from human rights groups and Iraqi dissidents. - Yours etc.,
