Sir, – The Koran is considered revealed truth by Muslims, yet it appears only Islamic scholars are qualified to disseminate this truth. Contrary to the belief that "it is unrealistic to stand outside of a religion and tell it what to believe" (Letters, July 2nd) it appears even those inside the religion haven't much of a say.
Must one hold a PhD in Islamic theology to understand the word of God? It appears to make a mockery of divine texts that they must undergo academic peer-review so “ordinary people” can understand the language of God. This interpretative problem is central to all monotheistic religion, explaining why some do good, and others do bad by its name. Islam is no different. – Yours, etc.
