Madam, – A disappointing aspect of the coverage of the recent Cabinet reshuffle is widespread acceptance by political commentators that the appointment of Mary Hanafin to the Department of Tourism, Culture and Sport is a demotion.
The sector represented by this department is a major contributor to the national economy, an essential force in the social fabric of Irish society and is of pivotal importance in maintaining national morale and international profile.
