Sir, – Dr James Reilly’s recent discovery in his work on “logistical logarithmic progressions” (Miriam Lord’s Dáil Sketch, October 4th), that 4X4 is equal to 16 rather than 8, must be the greatest breakthrough in Irish mathematical studies since William Rowan Hamilton discovered quaternions.
Perhaps Irish theoretical physicists could apply this new equation to solve the riddle of black holes in the Department of Health? – Yours, etc,
